Events, Exhibitions, & Media Coverage: 2010 onwards...
As I have started to become a bit better known, I thought it might be a useful exercise to keep a record here of exhibitions and other events I've been involved with along the way, before I lost track!
So here we go... with the most recent happenings at the top:

Easter 2024 - Open Studio
Following up on my recent successful series of Open Studios, I will be hosting another over the Easter long weekend - Friday 29th March through Monday 1st April.
My studio will be open all the Easter long weekend - Friday / Saturday / Sunday / Monday - from 10am till 3pm every day. I shall be working in the studio during this time, and as always I'll be happy to demonstrate techniques and discuss my process with you. Original artworks will be for sale, plus smaller unique and hand-crafted items which are ideal for little Easter presents... cards, jewellery, photographic prints, etc. Card payments welcomed. Studio is easy to find, right on Lower King Road - see map, and follow my signs - and it's okay to park in the bus pull-in, which isn't used at these times. Why not call in and say Hello :) |
ArtSouthWA AGM - Sunday 18th February
I was honoured to be approached by ASWA last year, and to be appointed as a Board member at the February AGM.
ArtSouthWA is the overarching Arts representative body for the Great Southern region of Western Australia. ASWA promotes a widely diverse range of arts and crafts, and members include regional art galleries, individual practitioners, and arts organisations. ArtSouthWA operates all year round, with the biggest undertaking being the organisation and running of the annual Southern Art and Craft Trail every September/October. ASWA also run professional skill development activities and workshops, and are constantly networking with other similar organisations.
This will be a very exciting next step on my journey!

AAG 62nd Summer Exhibition - 29TH DECEMBER 2023 to 27th JANUARY 2024
Christmas Eve - Open Studio, 10am to 2pm
Albany Art Group - 62nd Summer Exhibition
Art Lease Project
A new venture - I was very happy to have been accepted as an Art Lease Project artist last week, and to have had one of my paintings - "Golden!" - selected by the Great Southern Specialist Centre.
|
Albany Art Group Exhibition - Collie Art Gallery
AAG has broken new ground with this exhibition, which really shines in the A-Class Collie Art Gallery. We had an inspiring and very informative opening event in Collie on the 2nd December - well worth the long drive, and it was wonderful to see so many AAG members attending.
The exhibition runs till 14th Jan 2024, and is absolutely worth a visit... High quality regional art at its best, in this lovely regional art gallery. This is what we need for the Great Southern region - an inspiring, fit-for-purpose Regional Art Gallery based in Albany... |
Albany Art Group Xmas Market
My next Event will be taking part in the Albany Art Group Christmas Market this coming weekend. Members will have a variety of arts and crafts to choose from, and friends to catch up with - should be a great weekend!
I will be there with my craft items... a variety of jewellery and other small items, many on Special - also my cards and photographic prints - all very reasonably priced, and make ideal Christmas gifts. EFTPOS will be available. |
Open Studio Weekend
OPEN STUDIO sessions...
OPEN STUDIO - open for the first nine days of Art Trail, from 9am to 4pm, this proved to be very popular. On the basis of this, I've decided to make my Studio open to visitors on request, and also hold regular Open Studio sessions every couple of months.
Along with my paintings, I have some lovely greeting cards and framed / unframed quality photographic prints taken from my work... and my gemstone jewellery... all very affordable. My studio is easy to find, being right on Lower King Road. Please just contact me to arrange a visit. |
Phoenix Fine Arts - Whaleworld exhibition continues...
The exhibition at Albany's Historic Whaling Station has been so successful, that we were asked to stay until early November...
I have sold several of my original entries, as have the others artists - but they have been replaced by new artworks - so the exhibition is fresh, and well worth a second visit if you went during Art Trail. |
Southern Art and Craft Trail - 23rd September to 8th October 2023
A busy two weeks, as I have 3 consecutive venues to 'man' - my home studio, Phoenix Fine Arts at Discovery Bay, and Albany Art Group at the VAC. Find all three in the ArtSouth Southern Art and Craft Trail Directory.
1/ OPEN STUDIO - open for the first nine days, 9am to 4pm. Along with my paintings, I will have some lovely greeting cards and framed / unframed quality photographic prints taken from my work, and my gemstone jewellery... all very affordable. My studio is easy to find, being right on Lower King Road - ASWA Venue 69. This makes my studio part of a nice little 'mini-Trail' in the local area, venues 68 through 72 - involving King River Hall, Lower Kalgan Hall, and Arcadia Gallery, the studio of Ron & Marjan Classical Painters.
2/ WHALEWORLD - at the same time, we have our major Phoenix exhibition at Discovery Bay. This is an amazing venue to visit, with so much to see in the wildlife and historical areas, and a really nice cafe with scenic views too.
3/ Albany Art Group - and finally, we also have the AAG Trail exhibition, which will be at the Vancouver Arts Centre this year.
Tricky logistically... but very exciting! Here are some of the paintings I will be exhibiting, along with my limited edition prints, cards, jewellery etc...

'Phoenix in July' - school holiday exhibition at the Albany Museum
Phoenix Fine Arts Easter Exhibition - 16th to 24th April
This will be a wonderful exhibition. We are seven good friends, each with very different painting styles and subject focus - and now combined into one group, Phoenix Fine Arts.
We have taken the main gallery at the VAC for this, the first exhibition of our work as Phoenix, a united working whole. Further exhibitions planned are:
|
Craft Corner - 7th to 14th April 2023
My friend Suzanne Randall and I have hired the Front Gallery at the VAC over Easter, for a sale of our craft items - cards, photographic prints taken from the original artworks, jewellery, macrame, and other small items - for details of my work, please see my Store Page. Suzanne will also have certified local honey and garlic.
Then the following week, we go straight into an exhibition of our original artworks... see above |
Great Southern Art Award - 7th April to 19th May 2023
The inaugural GSAA exhibition of 2013 was established at the Vancouver Arts Centre, with artist talks and workshops for children included.
In 2014, the GSAA expanded this public program, and combined with the Vancouver Street Festival. After GSAA 2015, Council decided that the event would become biennial. In 2019 the GSAA was held at the Vancouver Arts Centre while the Town Hall was refurbished. Numbers were capped at a maximum of 80 entries, due to space restrictions. The GSAA 2021 was held at the refurbished Town Hall, again with 80 entries. The 2023 GSAA will also be held at the Town Hall. |
Home Studio, March 2023 - open by appointment - 0403 783 669
|
The last few weeks have largely been taken up with 'housekeeping' - that is, aiming to transform my studio from a purely working space (i.e. total mess! ) into a combination workspace/gallery area.
My lovely son put up the hanging rails for me before Christmas, so - having finally shaken off Covid! - I've had no excuse for further delay. It's been a lot of work, but it's starting to look pretty good, I think. The Studio is now divided into specific areas and work-stations, which means I can leave stuff out while it's being worked on, and just rotate around doing the different jobs without clearing away all the time - big improvement! And all my artwork, prints, jewellery, etc, are now nicely on permanent display. I'm generally around here... so if you would like to have a look, please give me a call to arrange a time. |
Summer Delights - AAG 61st Summer Exhibition
I was honoured to have one of my paintings featured on the flier for the AAG Summer exhibition... 'My Favourite Tree', a watercolour.
Unfortunately, I was down and out with Covid, and missed the entire thing! Happily, friends rallied round and organised my entries and sales for me... so lucky to have them, and so very grateful for everyone's support. |
'Monochrome' - VAC, 5th to 30th December 2022
Southern Art and Craft Trail - 2022
The next big event on my calendar - helping run and taking part in the AAG Trail exhibition...
"Albany Art Group will be holding another stunning exhibition of Members work at the Albany Town Hall during Art Trail this year! With many treats planned - from our traditionally excellent Opening Night (complete with live music), to sections showcasing the work of our various Groups, a special Themed section, a progressive interactive painting experiment, and selected Demonstrations from members and guests..." |
Albany Art Group - Diamond Jubilee Exhibition: February 2022
My entry - Flat / Line - the final work in my Morrigan series.
|
My second big event was the City of Albanys DIAMOND JUBILEE Exhibition - Celebrating 60 years of the Albany Art Group The Diamond Jubilee Art Exhibition was a celebration of the talent and artistic skills of the AAGs current members, and a testimony to the group’s founder Geoff Ridley’s advice to “stick together and work together” to achieve success. Thursday 3 - 24 February 2022 Tuesday - Saturday, 10am - 5pm at Albany Town Hall |
Albany Art Group - 60th Summer Exhibition: January 2022
I have a couple of major events coming up in the next two months - the first being the Albany Art Group exhibition at the newly renovated Albany Town Hall.
We hung the exhibition there yesterday, hard work but it all came together very well - and there are some lovely artworks there, and all very varied in style. I have 5 paintings in - see my FB post - however, it's a 'rolling' exhibition... you take your purchase with you, and the artist replaces it with another - keeps it nice and fresh over the 2 weeks. |
Cacao Commission: April - September 2021
UPDATE - SEPTEMBER 2021: ...and here it is: https://cacaomedium.com.au/product/ethical-chocolate-gift-box/ |
April - So, this commission was a little left of centre, and came completely out of the blue... however, it turned out to be very enjoyable, despite being quite intensive, and the research involved was absolutely fascinating. The medicinal properties of our local flora was not something I had ever previously considered, so this was a new and very interesting journey for me.
What Jane is doing with her ethical medicinal chocolate business is rather inspirational: https://cacaomedium.com.au/ Now the artwork is finished, I'm really looking forward to seeing 'my' box of chocolates in full production... |
Great Southern Art Awards Exhibition, 2/4 to 15/5 2021
The Great Southern Art Award will be the first Community art exhibition at the newly refurbished Albany Town Hall, and forms an important part of the opening to the Town Hall Relaunch festival.
Entries are limited to 80 artists from around the Great Southern area, and as we have some very talented people in this area there will be stiff local competition. However, nothing ventured...! So I have entered my oil painting 'Tipping / Point', which is the second work in my Morrigan series. |
Albany Advertiser, 4th March 2021
Quite a nice article in the Advertiser this week, although it was supposed to be all about the Down South Arts and Crafts Collective, and unfortunately ended up being more about me...
Some online research went on for background, I would say, as I avoided it in the actual interview. Not too sure about the "migrant farmer" headline, I've been here 35 years now - and I definitely did not mention goats! Anyway - reporter Kellie Balaam contacted me late on Friday morning, wanting to talk to me as the person who started the Collective - which spiraled into doing an interview/photos about the Collective in the store at 1pm. All the members available were called in - but very short notice of course, so we ended up with just half of us there. However, the facts are accurate, even if I was going for a more group-centered focus - and, judging by comments received so far, it has reached a new group of people who now want to visit the Collective store. So I guess, as they say - all publicity is good publicity! |
Leech Partington Botanical Art Prize, 21st - 27th February 2021
At last - WA has a dedicated Botanical Art Prize!
A fitting memorial to a truly brilliant botanical artist. I was honoured to be invited to take part in this event. "Penny Leech (1947-2018) was a gifted botanical and natural history artist. Many of her detailed works are in world- wide collections. She lived in Denmark W.A. for 14 years, painting local specimens which included her favourite eucalypts. It was in Denmark Leech reached her zenith. Knowing it would have thrilled her, Penny’s partner, Jennie Partington, decided to set up an annual Botanical Art Prize. Western Australia is well known for its wildflowers, yet does not have an exclusive art award dedicated to its unique flora and fungi. With collaboration from the Denmark Community Foundation (WA) and many others, this award has now come to fruition. The Exhibition will be at the Gallery, Denmark Community Resource Centre, 2 Strickland Street Denmark 6333 From 21st to 27th February 2021" |
59th Summer Exhibition: Albany Art Group, 8-17th January 2021
Back in its usual January time-slot this year, the 2021 Summer Exhibition - though we couldn't get the newly re-vamped Town Hall as planned, so we're at the VAC again instead.
We may get an extra exhibition in a couple of months, actually in the Town Hall - once the special wall dividers/panels eventually arrive from Germany, and are installed upstairs. I will have a good selection of my local orchid watercolour paintings in this exhibition, plus a couple of my wildlife oils. |
Southern Art and Craft Trail Exhibition 2020
The Southern Art and Craft Trail are holding their exhibition at the Vancouver Arts Centre in Albany, in place of the much broader annual Art Trail we are used to - which was growing larger every year, covering a huge area and around 100 venues by 2019 - pre-Covid, of course.
I am happy to be a part of this exhibition, which features some excellent, well-known artists, working in a variety of genres and media. Opening Night is on Friday 27th November, but is Invitation Only due to Covid restrictions on space. The new Art Trail Map will be launched at this time, which features venues from the area - including Down South Arts & Crafts - and provides an excellent guide to our regular local Arts and Crafts venues. The Map will be widely available throughout the coming year. |
Albany Art Group Exhibition, Autumn 2020 : Emergence...
"Members of the Albany Art Group have continued to create during this difficult year, and are happy to be able to present a new exhibition,“Emergence”, at the Vancouver Art Centre Albany.
Opening Night is Friday 25th September, 5.30 - 7pm. COVID restrictions are still in place, but this will be more than compensated for by the entertainment - Live Music will be provided throughout the evening by our brilliant local musician Simone Keene. So many interpretations to “Emergence” - it will be a wonderfully varied and inspired exhibition. The artists in the Albany Art Group are passionate about promoting art in the community and at the grass roots level." Personally, I hope to have enough new pieces finished to put on a respectable presentation, whilst also keeping up with demand at 'Down South...' - which is going really well, against all the odds this awful year is throwing at us. And... Kalgan, the previous weekend. So... no pressure!! |
Kalgan Creatives Exhibition 2020
2020 will be the first year of our local mini 'Art-Trail'.
Artists from the Kalgan/Lower King area are supporting the exhibition, with major art and craft works from paintings to sculptures, and also smaller items e.g cards and prints. There will be a complementary exhibition at King River Hall on the same weekend. With your support, we are hoping to make this mini 'Trail' an annual local event. |
Artist in the Spotlight - 7th to 14th August 2020
I was happy to be featured as artist of the week in the new ArtSouth online Southern Art & Craft Trail this week. Though I do feel a bit of a fraud, as my artistic output has actually been slim to non-existent the last few weeks, as I've been totally tied up with establishing 'Down South...'
That is now running very well, though, against all the odds - so, hopefully I will get some creative me-time again. Such a good idea, this online Trail, with the actual Trail having to be cancelled due to Covid. Not the same thing, of course, but at least it provides artists with an outlet. |
Down South Arts and Crafts Collective Inc. - June 2020
So, our small group of local creatives started out with the idea of providing an internet presence, to bring local artists together, and support and promote each others work; and...
In just one week, this has grown from being purely a web platform, to now running a physical Gallery space. We have just leased the beautiful old Banking Chambers at 86 Stirling Terrace, next to Dylans Cafe! We are currently assembling a nice mixed bag of people and products, and our Members will spend June getting set up. We will be opening for business on 1st July. See FB@downsouthartsandcrafts & website: https://downsouthartsandcrafts.weebly.com/ for details. |
Meet The Maker Monday - 18th to 24th May 2020
And then there was COVID-19...!!
Looking back, we were very lucky to finish the AAG 58th Exhibition before the VAC and everything else was suddenly in lock-down! So all my 'Exhibitions' and sales are currently being done through Social Media, and the many Facebook groups which have sprung up to support artists and artisans through isolation - though, as it turns out, Australia (and particularly WA) has been extremely lucky with infection rates so far, compared to the rest of the world. City of Albany Arts & Culture are being very helpful with online support to local artists in all genres, and I am honoured to have been given a spot on their Meet The Maker page |
58th Summer Exhibition: Albany Art Group 29/2 - 15/3/20
As usual, I was exhibiting with the AAG in 2020. This year, their Summer Exhibition was delayed due to the lack of available exhibition space at the Vancouver Art Centre (VAC). The Summer Exhibition is normally held in January - which is why I ended up with an Exhibition Log-Jam in February/March! Lack of space also meant that entry numbers had to be reduced from 10 paintings per artist with 10 replacements on sales, to only 6 and 6 replacements on sales.
On the plus side, I guess, that did ensure quality over quantity, and made for a really great exhibition...
Some of my entries are below:

Plantaganet Art Prize (biennial) - 2020
The PAP Opening Night is on Friday 28th February, with prize-giving etc, then the exhibition runs right through Sunday 8th March. I have entered my poor, unfortunate Numbat family this year. The unprecedented droughts caused by Climate Change are driving these extreme fire events country-wide. This is such an important issue, and I hope I can help, in some small way, to keep this front and centre of our consciousness.
Lest we forget...

Aurora Magazine - Feb. 2020
30th January - end February 2020: to finish January with a bang - bragging rights coming in here! - a couple of weeks ago, I was unexpectedly contacted and asked to do an interview, and now a really lovely feature article has been printed in Aurora Magazine, our local Arts publication,
- The Cover page features my 'Father and Son' Redcap parrots, and all the featured paintings will be on display at the 'Home and Away' exhibition, along with other originals, my Limited Edition Prints, and Greeting Cards.
- Aurora hit the streets on 31st January, and will be available through February.
February 2020: Wednesday 12th through Wednesday 26th
'Home and Away' Exhibition - held at Whaleworld in Discovery Bay, on the Torndirrup Peninsula, with Suzanne and Barry Randall, and Siebe Bijl.

Organising and doing paperwork and the fliers for both...
- And in between, organising a new monthly market for Albany CWA - now all set to start on Saturday (8th Feb) - I will have a stall there too, with my cards, prints, jewellery, and some paintings for sale...
Albany Botanic Art Group Exhibition: October 2019
ABAGs had our 'Trail' exhibition at Albany Entertainment Centre from 1st to 4th October, for the Australian Native Plants Society National Conference.
I was there every day, with original paintings, jewellery, prints, and greeting cards for sale. Though a bit tiring, it all went very well, and it was lovely to meet so many like-minded people all in one place!
Albany Art Group Exhibition: 20th September to 13th October, 2019
Opening was Friday 20th September, and it was a great night - vibrant event, with a good attendance and sales, despite many other Art Trail openings being on at the same time. Exhibition was open at the Vancouver Art Centre for (a very long!) three weeks. Happy to report that 'Apocalypse' sold to a fellow artist who totally 'Got It' - which was brilliant!
July 2019 - stock update:
I've taken up jewellery making again - Picture Pendants, dichroic glass pendants, natural stones and crystals.... Very therapeutic! Also have some framed and mat-boarded prints for sale.
I was selling these through the Albany Artisans store, but unfortunately that hasn't lived up to it's initial promise of being a true Collective, and I've pulled out. Disappointing, but - moving on...!

Working from home for the moment, and selling through my website's Online Store.
Art Trail 2019
Exhibiting with Albany Art Group for the Art Trail again this year. We will be in the VAC this time, as the Town Hall is currently closed for renovations. Always a good show, this exhibition, with a variety of talented artists displaying their latest artworks, and a 'revolving' system which enables buyers to take their purchases with them immediately, and the artist replaces them - keeps things fresh over the full 3 weeks, and makes it well worth more than one visit.

Great Southern Art Award, 2019
Launched in 2015, the Great Southern Art Award is a biennial exhibition and celebration of the visual arts in the Great Southern region. It gives local artists the opportunity to have their work professionally displayed, and features work by emerging and established artists in both 2D and 3D forms. The exhibition ran for 6 weeks: 19 April to 1 June, at Vancouver Arts Centre Albany.
This is the first time I had entered the G/S Art Award, and I was extremely nervous about the whole thing! Didn't win, of course, but I'm getting lots of nice comments, which is very heartening... And here is Apocalypse...Now! hung in the VAC exhibition space, below: |
March 2019: Resident Artist! @ Albany Artisans Collective...
A new feature at Albany Artisans will be the technical demonstrations, where one or more Artisans will be in store to show visitors how they produce their particular arts and crafts. Unfortunately, I got to go first, and was given a regular spot on Friday afternoons... Sessions started this Friday 8th March, and actually it went quite well. I got to talk to some interesting people (including a nice young lady who studies phascogales professionally), and I was given some very nice compliments on my paintings too, so it was not half as scary as I'd feared!
Paintings at the Artisans Store (plus a variety of my cards): March 2019
February 2019: new venture, Albany Artisan's Collective
I think I've found a fantastic permanent venue for my paintings and cards - I've joined the Albany Artisan's Collective, and we are renting a shop at the bottom of York Street (adjoining Empire Blue): see Website and Facebook.
AAC is a new venture, right in Albanys CBD, and it's going really well. We stock a wide variety of arts and crafts and other home-made items, produced by a rapidly growing group of local Albany Artists and Crafts People, and the idea seems to be that we run the whole thing ourselves as a co-operative venture. I have great hopes for this initiative. People Power!

4th - 20th January, 2019 - 57th Summer Exhibition, Albany Art Group
January 2019 saw me exhibiting with the AAG again at Albany Town Hall. Here are the artworks I was showing, and the Pair of Pardalottes I donated for the fund-raising raffle.
Nine of my paintings found great new homes, and the raffle was won by a nice couple from Perth who loved it - which I thought was a brilliant result all round... |
September 22nd - 8th October, 2018 - ART TRAIL +, Albany Art Group
Opening night at the Albany Art Group exhibition was on Friday 21st September, 2018.
Hanging and arranging all the entries was very hard work, but we ended up with a great display of varied artwork from some excellent artists, and we had lots of visitors, and much interest.
Sales also went well. From my 10 exhibited works, 3 Mini orchids ('Little Bird', 'Little Flame' and 'Little Flutter'), plus the 2 larger orchids 'Here Be Dragons' and 'Reaching', and the 2 possums in oils, 'Red Handed' and 'Bandits!...', have all been re-homed.
Got a LOT of work to do before January!

September 15-30th, 2018 - SOUTHERN ART TRAIL - Albany Botanic Art Group
Friday 14th was 'bump-in' for the Albany Botanical Art Group exhibition at the Vancouver Arts Centre. By mid-day Saturday, we'd had 60 people through, and sold 6 paintings (including my Blue Wren, Albany Spider Orchid, and Western Ground Parrot), plus greetings cards, calendars, and raffle tickets for our rather splendid composite piece 'Local Fungi'. A great couple of weeks, we got to meet some lovely people. And, bonus! - my 'Potoroo's Picnic' finally sold on the very last day!
ABAG Exhibition closed at the end of the Southern Art & Craft Trail, on Sunday 30th September.

September 6th, 2018 - Albany Advertiser
I had a nice surprise when Shannon, Arts Reporter from our local paper, contacted me out of the blue and asked for an interview. This was quite nerve-wracking - but a real confidence-booster!
June 1st to 4th, 2018 - Plantagenet Art Prize, and Exhibition
Very exciting, this was - an entirely new venture! - testing my boundaries...!
Didn't win a prize, but I did sell a painting - by the time I had walked around the exhibition, the pair of possums had a red sticker on them! Afterwards, I got to talk to the great couple who had bought them, and they have gone to an excellent, loving home - which is always nice to know!

May 19th to 26th, 2018 - Albany Art Group - Winter Exhibition
This was another good exhibition for me, being my third consecutive successful AAG exhibition. Very affirming, when someone likes your work enough to take it home with them, and look at it on a regular basis! I was left feeling a lot more confident, after selling another 3 of my 4 Mini orchids here, and also 'Funky Frog'. And another painting, of a pair of blue wrens, was commissioned too. Very happy!
30th Dec 2017 to 14th January 2018 - AAG - 56th Summer Exhibition
This 2018 Summer Exhibition was a great experience. I was very nervous, and worried that the successes of last time would just prove to be a flash in the pan. But no! Five of my paintings were sold again - 'Mr. Rosella' flew off to Perth, while 'Ms. Rosella' unfortunately deserted him for the joys of Adelaide! At least with 'Flirting!', the blue wrens had to stay together - hopefully, happily! - and they remained in Albany. Two Mini orchids also sold - 'Little Babe' and 'Little Blue' - and five paintings of English flowers were commissioned. Uplifting!
September 23rd - 7th October, 2017 - ART TRAIL - Albany Art Group
The 2017 AAG Exhibition on the 'Southern Art & Craft Trail' was a great experience, being my first real 'taste of success'. Five of my native orchid paintings were sold - Four Minis, and the larger 'Spiral Spider' - and some very nice, and much appreciated, compliments were received. Seems I didn't take any photos again, unfortunately, but these are the paintings I entered.
June 28th - 16th July, 2017: Albany Art Group Winter Exhibition
This exhibition was a little flat for me - six long weeks of rosters at the VAC, with a poor public attendance. One nice lady bought my little 'Well Spotted' to take back to South Australia with her, which was heartening. Very easy to get depressed, when you put your heart and soul into your work and no-one shows any interest - but she did.... Very nice. I have no photos of this exhibition - just learning the ropes, at this stage! But these are my entries
31st Dec 2016 to 8th January 2017 - AAG 55th Summer Exhibition
As I'm putting this page together, working back in time from Art Trail 2018, the process is showing me how much I have learnt over the last couple of years. Working with professionals is so helpful and empowering, it lets you see your strengths and weaknesses and work with them to better effect. I'm finding that learning how to display and present your work effectively is extremely important in enabling people to fully see and appreciate what you do.
September 24th - 1st October, 2016 - ART TRAIL - Albany Art Group
My first exhibition since TAFE! Very nerve-wracking! I wasn't able to become involved with the process, which was a shame as I could have learnt an awful lot. However, I was very pleased when 'Feisty Figs' sold towards the end - my very first sale ever! - very affirming.
There is a six-year gap in exhibition involvement here, as I was doing my Fine Art degree course with Open Universities - there was an online Exhibition unit, which I took... but unfortunately no opportunity for any practical experience.
November 2010 - Challenger TAFE, Rockingham: Annual Students Exhibition.
This was the very first time I had even been to an art exhibition! It was put on at the end of the Certificate 4 in Visual Arts & Crafts that I studied in 2010, following an Exhibition Presentation Unit where the students were taught how to successfully put on a show by themselves, and display their best work in all the subjects covered through the year.
We found the ARTSOURCE Exhibition kit very instructive, and the whole process gave us excellent experience in what to do - and what not to do! - when setting up and running an exhibition.
